Medical Receptionist Apprentice (The Manor Surgery)

About the employer

The Manor Surgery is a designated training practice for doctors, nurses and other professions where they are fully trained and qualified to deal with numerous medical issues.

Duties will include

  • Ensure a welcoming and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain practice procedures and make new and follow up appointments
  • Ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need an ‘urgent’ consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those requiring temporary cover
  • Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery
  • Enter requests for home visits onto the clinical system, including all relevant information and where necessary refer to the on call doctor
  • Action repeat prescription requests and ensure that they are ready for collection by the patient within 48 hours, either in person or by the electronic prescription service
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services; accept payment and issue receipt
  • Enter patient information onto the clinical system as required
  • Ensure that relevant correspondence and reports and results and scanned onto the patient record accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that consulting rooms are checked at the end of the day and are left tidy and secure
  • Undertake any training whether in house or at outside agencies as may be deemed necessary by the Practice Manager

Level 3 Customer Service Specialist Apprenticeship Standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
