Apprenticeship questions answered 

How much will I get paid?

The national minimum wage for an apprentice is £5.28 per hour. This will be the minimum starting wage however, some employers do pay more as a starting wage. Contact us today to discuss live vacancies and what a specific apprenticeship pays.

How many hours per week will I have to work?

The minimum hours per week will be 30 hours which will be paid hourly. 

How long does an apprenticeship last?

The length of an apprenticeship varied depending on the apprenticeship type. The minimum duration will be 12 months. Please visit the courses section of our website for more information.

Am I guaranteed a job at the end of my apprenticeship?

Wise Origin College cannot guarantee you a job at the end of your apprenticeship however, the vast majority of employers will offer you a permanent position once the apprenticeship completes and you have performed well. Our progression success rates are above 90% into permanent employment.

What qualification will I receive at the end?

The qualification you will receive is apprenticeship specific. For example, if you undertake a business administration apprenticeship you will receive a nationally recognised qualification from the awarding body in business administration.

What options do I have for progression once my apprenticeship finishes?

Progression opportunities range from permanent employment once the apprenticeship completes to further education to obtain higher-level qualifications. 

Am I eligible for an apprenticeship?

You are eligible if you are:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Able to work 30 hours or more each week
  • Committed to learning while in employment
  • An existing employee or a new employee
Can I do an apprenticeship if I already am employed?

Yes. If you already have an existing employer and want to gain a qualification and learn new skills Wise Origin College can support you. We will need to discuss this with your employer however, as long as you and your employer are committed to the apprenticeship, we can support you.

What is my holiday entitlement?

As an employee, you are entitled to a minimum of 20 days per holiday year. In addition, you will also be entitled to bank holidays off.

How much does it cost?

If the apprentice is 16-18 it is fully funded by the government at no cost to you, if they are aged 19+ the government will fund 95% with a small 5% employer contribution.

How long does the process take?

As soon as you show interest in taking on an apprentice or enrolling your existing staff onto a course, our team will immediately be in touch and book a meeting with you, provide you with all the information you need, complete all relevant paperwork and get started – its that simple!
